HEY! USTA early start ratings are out.
Important to note: If you see that you are getting bumped, you are not necessarily. Final rankings come out in December. Those are the official year-end bumps.
Plenty of times, those early start ratings don’t materialize as bumps at all. I know of one case last year where a player was knocked down to 2.5 during early start, but stayed at 3.0 in December, and another where a 3.0 was early start rated at 3.5, but it never happened.
Early start ratings are tentative.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY DO NOT GO INTO EFFECT IMMEDIATELY SO IF YOU ARE ON ANY COMBO TEAMS YOU ARE STILL GOOD TO GO AND THAT MEANS THE GREEN MACHINE 6.5 MEN ARE STILL ON A COLLSION COURSE WITH HISTORY AND A SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!
Shit, I’m confused. Maybe THIS article helps explain it best? Seriously read it. I just can’t figure out if combo season counts as an Early Start League. It doesn’t run into 2016, but the sectionals are in 2016, so does that make it a 2016 league? If so….well, damn, that would create havoc. If only I knew a journalist who could get to the bottom of this.
According to this, our region is NOT participating in Early Start Leagues, so maybe these combo seasons are not early start, which means all us captain-people can stop fretting:
But hey, I’m not gonna ruin the surprise for any of you — I only looked at TWO names — but one of y’all might be getting bumped up.
I’d like to mention names, but it’s not my style.
UPDATE: According to Early Start ratings, Scott Jankes, Marisa Martin and Sylvie Wittman COULD BE 3.5s and Lara Slatniske and Sharon Patterson could be bumped up to 4.0, but John Slatniske remains a SOLID 3.2365862.
UPDATE #2: Just got off phone with USTA, they said “No, John, you are still a high-3.0 in our book.” Click.
