Combo season winding down, but 2016 adult team season dates are out!

Combo season is all but over, with the 6.5 men already booked for sectionals Jan. 22-24 in Daytona Beach, and the 6.5 women rolling along at 8-0 with one more match to win to punch their ticket.

The 7.5 men, sadly, are 7-1 but have to hope for a miracle in order to pass Fishhawk Ranch. Although HG7.5 beat Fishhawk 2-1, the first tiebreaker, inexplicably, is lines won, and the Ranchers, despite owning an identical record as HG7.5, have a huge edge over the good guys.

Which brings us to team play, which is fast approaching.

The deadline to register teams for 2016 adult 18-over tennis season is Nov. 23.

Initial rosters are due Dec. 9.

Remember, people, check your ratings before you sign up because there are no refunds. The new ratings come out that first week in Decemeber (or thereabouts) so those who are getting bumped up or getting bumped down (probably John Slatniske) should wait on those.

Here’s what the start days and times look like:

Also, this little tidbit, from James Williams, our local league coordinator — in 2016, Hillsborough will return to an Early Start 18 & Over League in the Fall. The Combo will move to June.

I think that means an 18 & Over League in the winter (Jan.-March) and then one in the spring, and the two winning teams playoff for the sectional spot?

I only kinda but really not that much know what that means, exactly, but hoping Bob Schmidt will explain in the comments. Thanks Bob!

I would love to start a men’s 3.0 league out of Hunters given that we have so many strong 3.0s!

First comment about 7.5 team. FH has two matches to play, we have three. If they lose one and we win all three, we win. FH has to play the 3rd place team and the 11th place team. We play 5th, 8th and 6th place teams (in that order). If FH loses this coming Saturday and we win, our chances greatly improve. The next two teams we would face are ranked even lower than this coming Saturday’s opponents. FH’s last match win will be a certainty (11th place team), so we have to win all three.

Early start league. If I remember correctly Early Start is the Fall League and the winner plays the winner of the Spring League (same age group) and that winner goes to sectionals.
